Sun Service Oriented Architecture Gains Momentum
New Customers, Products, Services and Training Put Sun Ahead in the Service Oriented Architecture Market -- Sun Microsystems, the creator and leading advocate of Java technology, is showcasing its leadership in providing open source, open standards-based service-oriented architecture products and services at the JavaOne conference today. Sun is also adding to the more than 2,000 existing SOA customers and 1.1 million Sun Java Enterprise System subscribers and highlighting recent customer wins, including Harrods, TransAmerica Life Insurance Company, the San Diego County Health Medical Society Foundation, the London Borough of Harrow and Cadbury Schweppes. Sun is achieving significant customer gains and providing customer value with its Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS), primarily due to the flexibility of the software and a subscription pricing option that allows customers to build SOAs around both short- and long-term needs. Java CAPS is helping Sun customers increase software development productivity, leverage their existing IT investments and drive down total cost of ownership (TCO). In addition, the latest version of Java CAPS is the first product to combine the former SeeBeyond ICAN Suite with Sun's integration and communications software.
Java CAPS is a leading platform for developing service oriented architectures that improve business integration and agility. Sun is already receiving industry praise for its latest SOA endeavor. For example, Current Analysis recently published a favorable report on Java CAPS at its Web site. The Butler Group recently reconfirmed that TCO savings continue to be as high as 58 percent using the integrated tools in Java CAPS: its Web site.
"Developing a responsive technology infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical to the success of our business units," said Gwen Kluber, CIO, Financial Markets Group (FMG), a division of Transamerica Life Insurance Company. "As new programs are developed at the local business unit level and considered for roll-out across the organization, we require systems that allow us to evolve quickly and effectively with a minimum of disruption for our agents. The Sun Java CAPS solution was the only platform we felt gave us the flexibility we needed with the total cost of ownership we felt we could support and Sun's commitment to partnership and to our success was clear throughout the entire selection process."
