MSC Software Announces Acquisition of Advanced Materials Simulation Company

MSC Software has acquired e-Xstream engineering, a software and engineering services company that provides multi-scale modeling of composite materials & structures.

e-Xstream provides advanced materials simulation for many industries including auto, and aero to aid them in optimizing the use of innovative material systems to enhance performance of their products. The company’s products use nonlinear micro-mechanics and based on the industry’s manufacturing processes model a wide range of physics and materials.

e-Xstream’s Digimat product is compatible with FEA structural analysis codes such as MSC Nastran, ANSYS, Marc and Abaqus. e-Xstream engineering supports materials such as continuous fiber composites or chopped fiber reinforced plastics; injection, compression or draping manufacturing technologies; finite element or mean-field material simulation technologies; thermal, electric and mechanical physics; and product performance factors such as strength, fatigue and stiffness.

The combination of e-Xstream’s technology and MSC’s simulation tools will enable material simulation to be performed in all parts of the enterprise and will allow advanced prediction of failure. The technology allows enterprises to design components with margins that can be calculated directly on the specific part taking into account the critical loads.

The President and CEO of MSC Software, Dominic Gallello, stated that their acquisition will help manufacturers to reduce their physical testing costs that are required for approving a new material system.

The Co-founder and CEO of e-Xstream, Roger Assaker, stated that joining with MSC will help the company to extend its reach globally and also help maintain its leadership in materials and composite simulation.
