New University of Lisbon Upgrades to a Robust and Reliable Xirrus 802.11n Network
Xirrus has announced the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays throughout the New University of Lisbon in Lisbon, Portugal. NOVA is a large university with seven campuses catering to nearly 7000 students. As such, they needed a reliable and robust wireless network that could support their high user density while keeping the school on budget. Xirrus proved to be the only Wi-Fi vendor that could fill this need for NOVA with a unique wireless architecture that can provide large numbers of wireless users with enough bandwidth to support online learning applications.
António Arnaud, Head of the Computer Department at NOVA explains their need for wireless, “The mobility of students and faculty is becoming wide-spread very quickly as iPhones, PDAs, netbooks, and portables become more popular. Wireless was one of our most important changes in the past year because it allows us to support all of the mobile users and online learning tools.”
António continued by explaining his reasons for choosing Xirrus, “We needed to stay on budget and in order to do that we had to reduce the cost of wireless equipment. Xirrus provided us with a very high quality wireless network for a much lower cost than other vendors. Xirrus is a more simple and cost-effective solution to offer network service to more users. The most important thing to us is to have total coverage and Xirrus was the only vendor that could provide this quality of service with a complete implementation guarantee.”
