Quadrics announces $300 per-port price tag for its QsTenG-TG201 switch
Quadrics, the leading developer and supplier of high performance interconnect, has announced $300 per-port price tag for its 24-Port CX4 10Gbps Ethernet Switch. The new price is a further step towards the adoption of 10Gbps Ethernet in HPC environments. Attractive pricing together with the ubiquitous nature of Ethernet will catalyse the adoption of this standard in server clusters and storage. At SC07 in Reno, USA, Quadrics did announce the pricing strategy for its QsTenG-TG201 Switch, the latest member of the QsTenG family, designed for smaller networks. Quadrics is offering the 1U 24-port Ethernet switch, based on the Fulcrum FM2224, in both CX4 copper and XFP optics versions. “Ten Gigabit Ethernet has become the platform of choice for next generation computing center applications, and Quadrics is poised to take full advantage of the transition with our QsTenG series”, stated Giovanni Trezza, Chairman of Quadrics. “The low latency of Fulcrum’s silicon will enable our product to set the industry standard for line rate interconnect and make us the switch of choice in data centers.”
“FocalPoint switches are the ideal solution for HPC interconnect, as they offer the industry’s lowest latency and the 24 port density to maximize scalability for the federated switch networks proposed by Quadrics,” said Mike Zeile, vice president of marketing for Fulcrum Microsystems. ”To have a latency leader like Quadrics choose FocalPoint for its next generation of standards-based interconnect systems is a significant achievement for Fulcrum.”
FocalPoint switches feature an industry-leading 200 nanoseconds total latency, a ten-times improvement over existing solutions. The switches combine this low latency with non-blocking throughput, the highest level of integration and the greatest power efficiency, to become the cost-effective and high-performance choice for storage, computing/networking backplane and interconnect applications.
Giovanni Trezza continued: “After a decade of continuous success and leadership with our QsNetII interconnect, we’re pleased to announce Quadrics is developing technology solutions to meet the future challenges of supercomputing with our next generation QsNetIII . At the same time, new open standards based products like 10 Gigabit Ethernet are taking Quadrics technology to the wider market of data intensive computing. In addition to the new 24 port CX4/XFP QsTenG-TG201 there is the first product of this family, the 96 port CX4 QsTenG-TG108. These will soon be followed by the 12-48 port CX4/XFP QsTenG-TG204 which will support larger HPC systems with increased flexibility and performance.
