Penguin Computing Unveils Application-Ready Cluster Portfolio
Penguin Computing today unveiled the Penguin Application-Ready Cluster Portfolio, a new line of integrated hardware/software Linux-based cluster systems that provides greater productivity and efficiency in high performance computing (HPC) and commercial data center environments. The pre-configured, pre-tested Application-Ready Cluster Portfolio reduces time to deployment and eliminates the need for many traditional cluster end user and system administration tasks, making clustered computing dramatically simpler and more efficient. The turnkey Application-Ready Cluster Portfolio is built using proven Penguin integration and deployment processes with powerful, reliable Penguin servers loaded with the easy to use Scyld Beowulf Linux clustering software. Penguin Application-Ready Clusters are compatible with thousands of Linux applications across a wide range of vertical industries. This new Penguin cluster platform is the ideal solution for organizations that want to combine cluster computing capability with the strong price point of Linux technology and at the same time take advantage of an easier-to-order, deploy and use system than traditional offerings.
"The Application-Ready Clusters arrive ready to run, right out of the box, and significantly reduce the complexity of deploying and managing a Linux cluster so our customers can be more productive than ever before and focus on what they do best," said Enrico Pesatori, chairman and CEO of Penguin Computing. "We believe these new products will allow for greater adoption of clustering beyond traditional markets. We have made it easy to order and use clusters, even for organizations without deep cluster experience."
There are three product families within the Application-Ready portfolio: Penguin Portable Clusters, Penguin Performance Clusters and Penguin High Density Clusters. Each cluster family is designed to meet specific computational needs to help both individuals and organizations make optimal use of system and personal resources and reach their goals.
Penguin Portable Clusters: Ideal for office, lab or field deployment, the patent-pending Portable Cluster is designed to increase individual and departmental efficiency. It includes 6-24 CPUs that deliver up to 200 Gigaflops of performance in a convenient workstation form factor. This cost-effective, self-contained cluster offers single-point administration and increases individual and departmental control over important projects. In addition, the Portable Clusters provide hassle-free setup, tool-free maintenance and redundancy features for built-in reliability. With prices starting under $20,000, the Portable Cluster delivers scalable performance wherever and whenever it is most needed at a price that results in a strong return on investment.
Penguin Performance Clusters: The Performance Cluster delivers up to 3/4 of a Tflop of performance in a standard 42 unit rack. It is ideal for busy workgroups or departments requiring 32-256 nodes and is scalable up to thousands of nodes, as system demands and workloads increase. This system is composed of familiar 1unit and 2 unit rackmount servers with flexible I/O, storage and high performance interconnect options.
Penguin High Density Clusters: With the highest density server architecture on the market, Penguin's High Density Cluster offers up to up to 240 CPUs and 2 Tflops of computing power and as many as 240 CPUs in a standard size 42 unit rack. Ideal for both traditional HPC and data center compute environments, this blade-based system provides a highly productive user experience at a very low total cost of ownership. Built-in features for redundancy and maintenance simplicity provide sophisticated cluster users with a worry-free cluster deployment.
Each of the Application-Ready Clusters features optimal system configurations suitable for thousands of Linux HPC applications. All are available with single or dual core AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture or Intel EM64T processor technologies.
"The Application-Ready Cluster portfolio illustrates that our Platinum AMD Solution Provider Penguin Computing continues to be a leader in developing innovative, customer-focused cluster solutions that deliver the best processor performance-per-watt with the latest AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture," said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. "We are pleased to work with companies like Penguin Computing to create powerful solutions for the fast-growing HPC market."
