Cray Inc. Names Andreas Kerl Director of New Worldwide Services Unit
Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. today announced that it has named Andreas Kerl director of the company's new worldwide High-Performance Computing (HPC) Services business unit. Kerl also will continue serving as director of operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a role he has held since April 2002. Kerl had strong experience leading IT services organizations prior to joining Cray as head of the company's German subsidiary in 2001.
In his new role, Kerl will leverage Cray's unrivaled global HPC expertise to help customers solve their most challenging problems. Kerl is responsible for growing the HPC Services business by delivering consistently high quality and value.
"We expect HPC Services to become an increasingly important part of the company. To help ensure the success of this new organization, I have assigned one of Cray's proven leaders, Andreas Kerl, to oversee its growth," said Cray Chairman and CEO Jim Rottsolk.
He said the new unit offers services including supercomputing-on-demand, custom engineering and storage solutions, along with site engineering, installation management and training.
"Cray has long been recognized as a leader in HPC service and support," according to Rottsolk. "We formed a dedicated business unit so we could offer an expanded range of services to meet the needs of current and prospective customers."
Kerl said HPC Services recently was awarded contracts from Toyota Motor Group/Europe and Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano.
Other HPC Services' customers include Instituto Nacional de Meteorologica (Spain), the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, Applied Technical Systems, Boeing and others.
