Articles sought for issue of Computer devoted to reconfigurable computing

Volodymyr Kindratenko, a researcher in NCSA's Innovative Systems Laboratory, will be one of four guest editors for the February 2007 issue of IEEE Computer, which will focus on high-performance reconfigurable computing (HPRC) systems and applications. The other guest editors are Duncan Buell, University of South Carolina; Kris Gaj, George Mason University; and Tarek El-Ghazawi, George Washington University. NCSA's ISL explores and advances the path to petascale computing by testing and evaluating the performance of new systems for key scientific and engineering applications, focusing on architectures that promise to significantly decrease the cost or to greatly extend the range of these applications. Among the technologies being evaluated by the ISL is high-performance reconfigurable computing, which combines conventional processors with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). For the HPRC-themed issue, Computer seeks articles that provide perspective on all aspects of high-performance reconfigurable computing, including hardware platforms, applications, programming paradigms, compilers, programming languages, standards, and performance prediction and measurement. Articles that offer a comprehensive review of the state of the art and future trends in FPGA technologies, modern high-performance production and experimental reconfigurable platforms, high-level programming languages, and experiences in developing and running science and engineering applications on reconfigurable platforms are also sought.
