UAB to Set Up Center For Automotive Engineers

The University of Alabama at Birmingham will get $600,000 in federal funding to set up a center offering advanced training for automotive engineers. The Department of Energy is giving eight universities $4.7 million to establish Graduate Automotive Technology Education Centers of Excellence promoting the development of cheaper and better vehicles. UAB's center will focus on lightweight materials, biomechanics and advanced computation and simulation. Other universities receiving funds include Tennessee, Ohio State and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
