SAIC Program Receives Modeling and Simulation Award

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) today announced that its integrated product team (IPT) for the Army's One Semi-Automated Forces (OneSAF) Objective System program recently received the National Training Systems Association (NTSA) 2004 Modeling & Simulation Award in the Cross-Function category. The award ceremony took place at the 2004 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), held in Orlando. SAIC is the architecture and integration contractor for the program. In addition, the company serves as the development contractor for the system's after action review interface, its models and its environmental runtime component. As the OneSAF architecture and integration contractor, SAIC provides collaborative leadership for multiple users, acquisition professionals and developers from both government and industry. SAIC manages the program using Capability Maturity Model Level 5 processes, as externally assessed by independent auditors in 2004. NTSA's annual award recognizes individuals or teams for outstanding achievement in the development or application of modeling and simulation in the categories of training, analysis and cross function. NTSA President Rear Admiral Fred Lewis (USN, retired) presented the award to Army Lt. Col. Buck Surdu, OneSAF product manager, for the program executive office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation. "I am proud of the government and industry team's accomplishments on the OneSAF Objective System program," said Lt. Col. Surdu. "As the OneSAF architecture and integration contractor, SAIC has brought highly disciplined program management; collaborative leadership for multiple software developers; repeatable, mature processes and innovative tools to the entire OneSAF development team enabling us to meet a very demanding schedule." SAIC's development and use of its Integrated Development Environment (IDE), a Web-based management and collaboration tool, improves the speed and quality of development by providing end-users and all system developers with near real-time, desktop access into program progress. The IDE has improved communications and consistency among members of the IPT, and is also the core enabling technology that allows for international participation in the program.
