MCNC VP Accepts Position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC -- Dr. Thom H. Dunning, Jr., MCNC Vice President for the High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC) division, announced today that he will step down on September 1, 2002, to accept a position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and a full professorship at the University of Tennessee. David Rizzo, MCNC President and CEO, will manage the activities of HPCC until a successor for Dr. Dunning is named. "This was simply an opportunity I couldn't pass up," stated Dr. Dunning. "This will give me a chance to not only be a part of a nationally renowned center of excellence, but to spend much more time in the classroom, which is what I love." Dave Rizzo stated, "Thom has made great contributions to HPCC. We are certainly disappointed to see him leave, but wish him the best in his future endeavors."
