Ammasso Announces 20 Percent Performance Improvement
Ammasso, Inc., today announced the Ammasso 1100 version 1.1, the world’s first high performance, low latency RDMA-enabled Ethernet adapter. Version 1.1 offers a twenty percent performance increase, support for a wider range of operating systems and platforms, and enhanced remote management capabilities. Available since June, 2004, the Ammasso 1100 has been shipped to over 50 organizations, including major universities, government research sites, and large commercial enterprises.
“The Ammasso 1100 is the only Gigabit Ethernet adapter available today delivering the benefits of RDMA to high performance computing environments,” said Larry Genovesi, CEO of Ammasso. “By leveraging our experience in the marketplace, we were able to enhance the Ammasso 1100 based on real world feedback, and deliver significant performance improvements for our customers.”
“We see great market potential for this product,” said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems. “Our customers are looking for a high performance Ethernet solution to enable them to leverage the power of our Titan64 Opteron 4-way and 2-way blade clusters.”
With the Ammasso 1100, customers can leverage existing Ethernet infrastructures by taking advantage of switches, cables, and trained personnel already in place. The Ammasso 1100 increases performance of application-to-application data transfers by lowering message latency, offloading the host CPU, and leveraging RDMA technologies. Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) is a set of technologies that enable the movement of data from the memory of one server directly into the memory of another without involving either operating system, thus reducing CPU usage and increasing performance.
Release 1.1 includes a number of new enhancements to the Ammasso 1100, including:
Enhanced Performance - – The Ammasso 1100 version 1.1 provides a 20 percent performance increase, meeting the needs of the even the most demanding applications.
Support for the AMD Opteron™ - With Release 1.1, the Ammasso 1100 now supports the AMD Opteron environment for both 32 and 64 bit applications.
Expanded Operating Systems Support – The Ammasso 1100 now supports a number of Linux™ distributions, including Red Hat® Linux 9, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 WS/ES/AS, SUSE® LINUX Enterprise Server 8, and SUSE Professional 9.0.
