Rackable announces new C1002 server to leverage trends in cloud
New Eco-Logical C1002 Chassis Design Delivers Double Storage Capacity and High Density in 1U Form-Factor: Rackable Systems, today announced the immediate availability of the C1002 server utilizing the company’s new high density, Eco-Logical half-depth chassis design. The system leverages the latest advancements from technology providers AMD and Intel, including the new 45 nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor, previously code named “Shanghai.” Designed for cloud computing and other intensive Internet environments, the C1002 builds upon Rackable Systems’ existing density and power efficiency advantages. The C1002 features a choice of two hot-swap 3.5” or four hot-swap 2.5” SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) or SATA II (Serial ATA II) disk drives, with capacity of up to two Terabytes per system. Six or eight energy-efficient DDR2 memory slots allow C1002 configurations to reach up to 64GB of memory. Up to 88 C1002 servers can be housed in a Rackable Systems’ 44U rack to achieve extreme density with environmentally-friendly, low-power consumption.
“Our new C1002 server broadens the range of Rackable build-to-order server configurations to address demanding market requirements,” said Giovanni Coglitore, chief technology officer at Rackable Systems. “Customers will achieve greater storage capacities with the C1002 and attain dual server densities in 1U of rack space to lower the total cost of ownership and increase their organization’s ability to cost-effectively scale. It is the perfect Web server.”
Rackable Systems’ C1002 supports the broad range of dual-core and quad-core processors available from both AMD and Intel:
* C1002-F1: AMD Opteron 2200/2300 Series processors, nVIDIA nForce Pro 2200 chipset, 8 x DDR2 667 memory
* C1002-SC1: Intel 5100/5200/5300/5400 series processors, Intel 5100 chipset, 6 x DDR2 667 MHz memory
“With superior capacity and the flexibility of swapping 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives, the C1002 is a highly scalable and energy-efficient server that leverages the benefits of our new 45 nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors,” said Patrick Patla, vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation division, AMD (NYSE:AMD). “Rackable Systems has again demonstrated their ability to deliver a server that sets the bar high for density and low power consumption in our customers’ datacenters.”
Ideal for powering Web and infrastructure applications such as Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Exchange and Apache, the Rackable Systems C1002 supports industry-leading operating systems such as Microsoft Server (including Web Edition), Red Hat Linux Enterprise and Novell SUSE Linux.
Rackable Systems' award-winning x86 server designs—which help reduce power consumption and cooling costs—can enable some of the world's largest data centers to deploy high density, high performance server configurations while significantly reducing operational expenses and total cost of ownership. Rackable Systems’ high efficiency AC and DC power supplies with up to 96.5 percent efficiency*, low-power processors and low-voltage memory all help make the C1002 a highly Eco-Logical server design. As organizations continue to focus on decreasing energy consumption and implementing "green" technology in the data center, Rackable Systems' Eco-Logical server and storage products help them meet these challenges.
Availability
The C1002 is immediately available, both for traditional data centers and as part of the company’s award-winning ICE Cube modular data center. For information about specific configurations and pricing, please visit Rackable Systems at its website.
