Compaq AlphaServer Systems Chosen for GTSI's $857 Million Army Contract

HOUSTON, TX -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) and GTSI Corp. (Nasdaq: GTSI) announced today that Compaq's AlphaServer systems will be the computer platform that GTSI supplies for its Maxi-Minis and Databases (MMAD-G) contract. The five-year GTSI contract has a government-evaluated value of $857 million if all options are exercised. Under MMAD-G, GTSI will deliver Compaq's high-end AlphaServer GS Series enterprise systems running Tru64 UNIX along with various AlphaStation DS Series departmental systems. Government customers will use these systems with Compaq's StorageWorks fibre-channel subsystems, with support from Compaq Global Services. "With their superior performance, reliability and 7x24 availability, we believe our Tru64 UNIX-based AlphaServer systems and StorageWorks subsystems are an ideal solution for the data-intensive computing needs of GTSI's worldwide federal customers," said Rich Marcello, vice president and general manager of Compaq's High Performance Systems Division. "GTSI is very excited about this relationship and our ability to bring Compaq's high-end solutions to our Federal customers through MMAD," said Dr. Joel Lipkin, GTSI's senior vice president of Marketing and Customer Support. "Our Compaq Enterprise Technology Team, with expertise in Alpha and StorageWorks systems, is focused on MMAD and will actively brief customers on both the contract and the technology. MMAD is the perfect vehicle for delivering enterprise level solutions to our government customers. It offers a full range of products and services and is flexible enough to adapt to a wide range of requirements." In addition to the Compaq computer and storage systems platforms, GTSI will provide Cisco networking products and a wide range of technical services on the MMAD-G contract, which is open to any agency of the Federal Government. GTSI and Compaq were chosen by the Army as the technology providers for the MMAD-G contract following a comprehensive proposal review that included a number of tests, including the industry-standard TPC-C and TPC-H benchmarks, as well as the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp (SPEC) SPECint and SPECfp benchmarks. AlphaServer systems produced outstanding results in each of the tests. For more information visit www.compaq.com or www.gtsi.com
