Professor and Chair Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico (www.unm.edu) invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). The ECE Department (www.ece.unm.edu), one of five departments in the School of Engineering, is committed to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education with ABET-accredited B.S. degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and M.S. and Ph.D. programs involving students in cutting-edge research. The ECE Department has been rising in national rankings, with the Electrical Engineering Program ranking 46 and the Computer Engineering Program ranking 62 in the most recent U.S. News and World Report survey. The University of New Mexico is a Carnegie Doctoral Research/Extensive University, a Minority Institution and a Hispanic Serving Institution, with approximately 30,000 students on the main and branch campuses. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department comprises 33 tenure-track faculty, whose sponsored research exceeded $10M in fiscal
year 2003-2004. The Department cultivates a world-class research environment with significant interactions with National Laboratories in the State, and with universities and research organizations nationally and internationally.
The School of Engineering seeks a Chair who has demonstrated leadership, preferably in an academic environment, has a research record of marked distinction and significant impact, has proven effective teaching skills, and is active in service to the Engineering Profession. The successful candidate should have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and should articulate a vision for education, research and service that will lead the Department to among the top 25 in the Nation. An earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or closely related field is required.
