Pixorial gets a makeover, increases free storage
Pixorial is increasing the amount of free video storage for members.
The Denver-based site is increasing storage to 7 gigabytes, from 1 gigabyte, in a bid to get more folks to check it out.
"We wanted to make the limit big enough so you'd get a good sense of what Pixorial was about," says CEO Andres E spineira. "We didn't want 1 GB to be a limiting factor. The more videos you have on the site, the more likely you are to stay and becoming a paying subscriber."
Pixorial is approaching 250,000 subscribers, of which 40,000 are paying members. Subscriptions (for more storage) begin at $19 yearly.
With Pixorial, folks can upload their clips from their mobile devices or cameras, and use the site's tools to trim the video and pretty it up with graphics and effects. The finished videos can be viewed on the Pixorial site, and shared to Facebook and other social media. They can also be sent via e-mail or burned to DVD (for a fee).
The site's makeover also touts new features like a "Quick View" that lets you mouse over a clip and see the contents speeded up — a way to watch a three- minute clip in a few seconds.
While online video editing is one of the tools that makes Pixorial different from other video sites, Espineira views Pixorial as a "video sharing site" that happens to have editing tools. "Editing is a means to an end," he says. "To connect people with video memories. How do you find and share the five or ten minutes that your kid was on stage with the school play without having to see the entire play?"
