Buccaneers Score Touchdown With Foundry Networks
Buccaneers Improve Their Game With Foundry's Converged Wired and Wireless Infrastructure: Foundry Networks, a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that its high-performance networking solutions were selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, members of the National Football League (NFL) and Super Bowl XXXVII Champions, for their new training facility and headquarters. Foundry's BigIron RX Series of Layer 2/3 Ethernet switches, FastIron Series of PoE switches and IronPoint wireless solutions provide the Buccaneers a converged edge-to-core network with new IP video technology tools to enhance their team's training program as well as improve their daily operations and physical security with Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP video security (IPVS) cameras.
After the team's recent move to their new training facility and headquarters, the Buccaneers selected Foundry Networks' best-of-breed networking solutions to assist with their overall business operations and growth. The all new Foundry-powered edge-to-core solution, high-availability design and convergence-ready edge are key components in achieving the Buccaneers' networking objectives.
With Foundry's 10/100/1000 Mbps Class 3 PoE LAN infrastructure the Buccaneers are able to leverage the productivity advantages of VoIP and physically secure their new facility and fans by easily integrating PoE-ready IP security cameras throughout their campus. The IP video security market is growing at a significant rate, especially with the increasing availability of PoE equipment. Industry analyst Mark Kirstein at iSuppli Corp. predicts the market for IP video security cameras could post a growth rate of approximately 88 percent from 2004 to 2010, potentially reaching $3.9 billion by decade's end.
At the Buccaneers' network core, Foundry's award winning BigIron RX series switches deliver highly available and secure network services to their entire facility. Each BigIron RX has a forwarding capacity of over one billion packets per second. Featuring modular upgradeability for PoE, 10GbE and redundant power in a 1.5U high form, the FastIron GS Series of compact Layer 2/3 switches provide the Buccaneers with a scaleable and reliable solution for enabling wireless LAN, VoIP, IPVS and high-speed networking at the network edge. By installing an inexpensive plug-and-play upgrade, the FastIron GS Series can support up to 48 10/100/1000 Mbps Class 3 PoE ports -- the highest Class 3 PoE port density in its class. The campus-wide IronPoint wireless LAN infrastructure installed throughout the campus provides the team with 24/7 access to network resources. Foundry's wireless products incorporate the highest standards in wireless security, providing secure access only to authenticated users. Network administration is centrally managed using Foundry Networks' comprehensive management tool -- the IronView(r) Network Management software. This tool allows network administrators to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the campus wide network for both wired and wireless deployments.
"We are pleased that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Foundry's wireless and switching solutions for the foundation of their new home," notes Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager for Foundry Networks' enterprise business unit. "The Buccaneers are an excellent example of a progressive thinking organization. Through total convergence from edge-to-core, they are able to maximize the benefits of their network today and protect their investment with a reliable infrastructure that will scale with future growth."
