Technology Insertion Engineer/Scientist for the Ranger Supercomputer
The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at the University of Texas at Austin has just brought the Ranger supercomputer into service. Ranger is currently the most powerful computer in the world that is open to research. The potential of the Ranger hardware system is limited by the capabilities of the software and algorithmic environment in which applications are developed and executed. The purpose of this position is to provide leading edge software methods and tools for the Ranger supercomputer. Work will be performed in the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) in the Center for Distributed and Grid Computing in collaboration with TACC.
The essential functions of this position are: Identify and evaluate leading edge software systems for high performance computing (HPC). Design and execute experiments on state of the art HPC software. Collaborate with users on experimental evaluations of tools and methods. Install, test and modify open source software. Work with other researchers to obtain external funding through proposals submitted to industry and federal agencies. Present results of activities at conferences, workshops, seminars and through publications in proceedings and professional journals. Design and maintain web sites for technology insertion project.
Required qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or a related area and five years of professional experience; or Masters degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or a related area and two years of professional experience; or doctoral degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or a related area. Experience in parallel programming and computation; competence in compiler technology; knowledge of performance modeling and evaluation; competence in one or more application or algorithmic domain important in HPC. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong command of the English language. Must have a professional demeanor. Punctuality is important.
Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of data mining and machine learning; knowledge of distributed systems; knowledge of several of the technology insertion challenge areas. Experience writing proposals for external funding.
