Tucson to Host HPC User Forum in April
IDC announced that the HPC User Forum will return to Tucson, Arizona for its 49th meeting, April 29-May 1, 2013 at Loew's Ventana Canyon Hotel. IDC invites all members of the HPC community to mark their calendars, find more information, and register at www.hpcuserforum.com. HPCwire is a co-sponsor of the HPC User Forum.
The lead topic will be HPC in aerospace, astronomy and astrophysics, with a keynote presentation, "Engineering for the Mars Science Laboratory," by Dr. Robert Manning of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Among other talks on this topic are the following:
- "HPC for Space and Astrophysical Sciences," Jill Dahlberg, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory
- "Recent Advances in Overcoming the Red Shift for CFD Simulation Analytics," Scott Imlay, Tecplot
- "3D Electronic Model-Based Type Design," Jeff Kreide, Gulfstream
- "Petascale Supernova Simulation," Bronson Messer, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
The meeting will also feature the latest developments involving processors, coprocessors, and accelerators, with planned technical talks by end users and vendors alike on these topics:
- The Future of x86 Processors: Intel and AMD
- From Embedded to Servers: ARM and Atom
- Coprocessors and Accelerators: Nvidia GPGPU, Intel Xeon Phi, AMD Fusion, Convey FPGA
- Processors from China
- New processor packaging
Advanced visualization is another technical topic the meeting with explore, with these talks and others to be added:
- "A Visualization Tool for Astrophysics," Hari Krishnan, NERSC
- "A 3D Fly Through of the Known Universe," Yushu Yao, NERSC
The HPC User Forum will also continue its exploration of emerging HPC technologies and markets for Big Data, including the HPC-commercial convergence market for advanced analytics, with presentations from users and intriguing vendors such as Apixio and Emcien. As always, there will be a lively panel discussion on potentially disruptive technologies, brief vendor technical updates, and an array of talks from users who are doing interesting things, including BP, NCSA, and others.
