ORNL-Mentored Oak Ridge High School team wins Siemens Competition
A team of Oak Ridge High School students has won first place and $100,000 in the national Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology for their research thesis titled "Linking Supercomputing and Systems Biology for Efficient Bioethanol Production."
The students -- Scott Horton, Scott Molony and Steven Arcangeli -- were mentored by Nagiza Samatova of ORNL's Computer Science and Mathematics Division.
Last year, Samatova mentored a team of Oak Ridge students who won the regional competition and placed fourth nationally. This year is the first time the competition has had repeat finalists from the same school.
