Japanese Service Provider VECTANT Leverages Force10 TeraScale E-Series
Force10 Networks today announced that VECTANT, a subsidiary of Japan-based Global Solution K.K., has deployed the Force10 TeraScale E-Series family of switch/routers at its network edge to deliver reliable and secure services to its growing customer base. Leveraging the industry-leading density and resiliency of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series, VECTANT is building a high level of scalability into its network to support new advanced services. "To provide secure, high quality services, we need a high performance router that ensures network security and counters distributed attacks," said Aoki Masaki, manager for VECTANT's research and development group. "The high level of ACL support that the Force10 solution offers distinguishes it from other products and most importantly, makes it easy to navigate in the event of trouble." Supporting more than one million access control lists (ACLs), the Force10 TeraScale E-Series delivers the scalable system-level security that VECTANT needs to protect its network from distributed denial of service attacks and other malicious traffic. The three CPU architecture of the TeraScale E-Series offers a further layer of security by insulating switching, routing and management functionalities from each other to protect against attacks.
"The Japanese broadband market is very competitive and VECTANT requires a cost-effective infrastructure that can scale as needed," said Mark Cooper, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Force10 Networks. "The TeraScale E-Series combines the density and security VECTANT needs to accommodate increasing demand from one of the world's largest broadband markets and ensure the reliable and predictable delivery of advanced services."
The Force10 TeraScale E300 supports 288 Gigabit and 48 Ten Gigabit Ethernet ports, providing VECTANT with a highly scalable platform at the edge that enables seamless expansion as demand for services continues to increase. In addition to high density, the TeraScale E-Series provides VECTANT with an unmatched level of resiliency. Combined, the high density and resiliency of the TeraScale E-Series reduce both capital and operating expenses, enabling VECTANT to increase the profit margins on its services.
Additionally, with a unique three CPU architecture that distributes switching, routing and management functionality between three distinct processors, the Force10 TeraScale E-Series delivers robust Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality. Leveraging the protected memory and individual processors of the three CPU architecture, the Force10 TeraScale E-Series delivers the rapid BGP convergence times VECTANT needs to guarantee high quality service to its customers.
According to the Computer Industry Almanac, Japan is the third largest broadband market in the world with more than 26 million subscribers. In the first nine months of 2005 alone, Japan added 20.9 million broadband lines, making it one of the fastest growing markets in the world.
