Japan's Largest Public Research Organization Deploys McAfee IntruShield
Network Associates, Inc. announced that the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tokyo, Japan, has deployed the McAfee® IntruShield® 4000 to protect its facilities located in Tsukuba, Japan. AIST, Japan's largest public research organization, deployed McAfee IntruShield for its real-time intrusion prevention, comprehensive intrusion protection and flexible deployment capabilities. AIST has deployed the McAfee IntruShield solution at their Tsukuba Advanced Computing Center to protect its network from intrusions as well as to handle the network structuring, management and maintenance, and information security across the institute's infrastructure. Ensuring network security at the Tsukuba Advanced Computing Center is vital, as it is the central location for the IT operations for all of its research units and administrative divisions. Additionally, the high-speed network supports the management of research databases, as well as all computer resources for the Institute. "We deployed McAfee IntruShield 4000 based on the technology's comprehensive IDS and IPS capabilities and ability to completely block attacks from entering the network," said Dr. Atsushi Masaki, senior researcher of AIST's Tsukuba Advanced Computing Center. "We are impressed by the technology's advanced manageability and operability, high performance, extensive features and functionality, as well as the ability to learn the appropriate response to AIST's unique signatures."
With the Network Associates McAfee IntruShield technology, AIST has access to the highest detection accuracy, reliability, in-line operation, wire-speed performance, and fine granularity and control. The McAfee IntruShield network security products integrate patented signature, anomaly, and DoS analysis techniques, which enable highly accurate attack detection and prevention from 100 Mbps to multi-gigabit speeds. A few of the key features of McAfee IntruShield 4000 include:
-- Real-time Intrusion Prevention -- Proactive capability to stop
in-progress attacks coupled with a rich set of alerting and response
actions.
-- Comprehensive Intrusion Detection -- Intelligent detection of known,
unknown, and DoS attacks using a combination of signature, anomaly,
and DoS detection techniques.
-- Flexible Deployment -- Unmatched flexibility of IDS deployment-
including in-line, tap, and SPAN modes-to suit any network security
architecture.
-- Virtual IDS (VIDS(TM)) -- Powerful capability to set multiple, highly
granular, custom intrusion policies within a single sensor.
"We are honored that AIST deployed Network Associates McAfee IntruShield solution to protect its network from intrusions and security threats," said Kato Takahiro, president of Network Associates, Japan. "The fact that customers around the world are deploying our intrusion prevention solutions reaffirms Network Associates leadership position in providing comprehensive intrusion prevention security solutions to customers across all market segments."
