Los Alamos National Laboratory Deploys TippingPoint Technologies
AUSTIN, Texas--TippingPoint Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:TPTI), the leaders in high-speed intrusion prevention, today announced that Los Alamos National Laboratory is using the UnityOne(tm)-2400 Intrusion Prevention Appliance to protect the Laboratory's networks. Based in New Mexico, Los Alamos employs about 12,000 staff and is best known for its role in developing technologies to maintain the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile and reduce the global danger from weapons of mass destruction.
"Because we are protecting sensitive information and materials, it is critical that we have ultra-tight cyber security," said Paul Criscuolo, security analyst at Los Alamos National Laboratory. "If an unauthorized user gained access to the network, the results could be devastating. We are using the UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Appliance to protect our networks."
The UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Systems and Appliances are able to perform full packet inspection through Layer 7 with sub-millisecond latencies for real time traffic analysis. The UnityOne is kept up-to-date with the latest vulnerabilities through a Digital Vaccine service that is deployed to customer devices on a regular basis with newly created vulnerability-based Virtual Software Patches and security filters. In addition to protecting network vulnerabilities, UnityOne devices come with Peer-to-Peer Piracy Prevention features, which block illegal file sharing thereby increasing bandwidth availability.
"We are pleased that Los Alamos National Laboratory is using the UnityOne Intrusion Prevention Appliance," said TippingPoint Technologies' President and Chief Operating Officer James A. Hamilton. "TippingPoint Technologies is committed to providing the highest level of cyber security and unparalleled network protection for customers with critical needs."
Los Alamos National Laboratory is operated by the University of California for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of the U.S. Department of Energy and works in partnership with NNSA's Sandia and Lawrence Livermore national laboratories to support NNSA in its mission. Los Alamos develops and applies science and technology to ensure the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat of weapons of mass destruction, proliferation and terrorism; and solve national problems in defense, energy, environment and infrastructure.
