InfiniBand Support in Oracle Database 10g
San Francisco, OracleWorld 2003 -- Mellanox Technologies Ltd., the leader in InfiniBandSM semiconductors, announced that the newly announced Oracle Database 10g has been tested, approved and now publicly demonstrated over Mellanox InfiniHostTM devices. A yearlong collaboration effort among Oracle, Topspin® Communications and Mellanox has resulted in a fully native implementation of InfiniBand support for Oracle database 10g. At the OracleWorld conference this week Dell, Intel, Network Appliance, Sun Microsystems, Topspin Communications, Voltaire, InfiniCon Systems and others are demonstrating Oracle databases running over InfiniBand clusters built with industry standard servers. Results have shown that the InfiniBand interconnect reduces latency significantly, provides greater bandwidth, and lowers CPU utilization for greater performance improvements. This performance can now be applied to Oracle Database 10g. Together, Oracle Database 10g and InfiniBand enable IT managers to create robust, scalable, and highly available databases running on low cost commodity servers using the Linux operating system.
In the Dell booth, the demonstration shows how improved data center resource allocation can be achieved with InfiniBand.
Sun has clustered together Sun FireTM V65x and V60x servers, along with Sun StorEdgeTM 3510 Fibre Channel storage arrays for a complete 10Gbit/sec InfiniBand Oracle database 10g and Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS) demonstration over Linux. Another InfiniBand cluster features Sun Fire V480 systems over Solaris. The Linux version of this demo was featured during Scott McNealy’s OracleWorld keynote address. Network Appliance is showcasing Oracle databases connected to native attached InfiniBand storage with their FAS 940 storage server. The Network Appliance demonstration features 10Gb/sec storage using InfiniBand attached Direct Access File System (DAFS) file servers connected to Oracle Database 10g.
The Intel booth features Intel Itanium® 2 processor based systems clustered with InfiniBand.

Mellanox has provided InfiniBand semiconductors, software drivers and contributed to the RDMA InfiniBand uDAPL interface development within the DAT (Direct Access Transport) Collaborative. uDAPL provides a lightweight interface enabling the Oracle Database 10g to call and utilize the highly scalable and flexible 10Gb/sec low latency interconnect features of InfiniBand. To take advantage of these capabilities, Oracle has updated the Cache Fusion Architecture for InfiniBand and implemented rigorous validation and testing with Topspin Communications to enable the most robust implementation.
