Java Technology Confirmed Platform of Choice for Network Computing
SAN FRANCISCO, JavaOne Developer Conference -- Sun Microsystems Inc.,, the creator and leading advocate of Java, announced that hundreds of partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) came together at JavaOne to showcase new technologies and solutions based on Java and Sun ONE software. Over 150 technology leaders have committed to building and distributing Java and Sun ONE based-products and solutions in the areas of content management, personalization, authentication, security, collaboration, enterprise application access and wireless infrastructure. In related news, Sun partners Macromedia and Oracle have achieved Java Verified status under Sun's Java Verification Program. The program is an added measure and indicator for enterprise solutions buyers that the applications are compatible with all Java 2 platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) technology-based products. "Sun is dedicated to reducing the time it takes to design, develop and implement new enterprise applications," stated Stuart Wells, senior vice president, Market Development Organization, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "To that end, we launched the Java Verified Program to ensure the highest quality of Java based applications reach the market. Oracle, Macromedia and several other leading software vendors have participated ensuring their products will seamlessly integrate with other J2EE based solutions."
Sun's leadership in developing the J2EE as well its sponsorship of several key Java Specification Requests (JSRs) within the Java Community Process (JCP(SM)) have been instrumental to ensuring the evolution of a robust and scalable Java platform that has served as the basis for a set of highly competitive Sun ONE software products including the Sun ONE Java-based Application Server and the Sun ONE Java-based Web server. Market leaders such as Amdocs, BEA, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and Sybase continue to recognize the Java platform and the Sun ONE product portfolio as their preferred choice for building new applications and services for the network.
"Novell believes that J2EE provides the only viable enterprise-class deployment option for cross platform Web services-based applications," said Frank Auger, vice president of product management for Novell's Web application development products. "The pervasive acceptance of the J2EE platform enables us to focus on our Java Verified integration and portal products that comprise the Novell exteNd suite. We look forward to helping our customers benefit from the enhanced Web services support in J2EE 1.4."
At JavaOne, several areas of success were highlighted including Java-based Web services, mobile Java services and Java enterprise applications. Java technology-based Web services are the premiere platform of choice for developing and deploying web services today.
"Business Objects Enterprise 6 leverages the enterprise-class infrastructure of the Sun ONE Application Server 7 to offer companies a comprehensive, end-to-end business intelligence solution," said Chris Caren, vice president, Corporate Product Marketing at Business Objects. "By enabling Web delivery of applications and providing web services support in an easy-to-manage framework, Sun ONE Application Server 7 works with our comprehensive business intelligence offering to help organizations track, understand, and manage the performance of their enterprise."
Tunathon III
Building on its commitment to bring price-performance value to its customers, Sun recently completed its third annual "Tunathon" -- a collaborative engineering effort between Sun and its ISV partners to improve and optimize application performance on the Sun platform. Sun is the only systems vendor to work with ISVs on this type of program of application optimization and tuning. Sun attracted more than 50 ISVs to this year's Tunathon program, and fine-tuned over 65 applications, producing an average performance gain of 31 percent.
