Foundry Provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet Network Infrastructure
Tokyo -- Foundry Networks, Inc., a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, announced that its newest NetIron(R) routers were chosen to provide network infrastructure at Networld + Interop (N+I) Tokyo, the premier Asian network computing tradeshow, which opened today. Foundry's high-performance NetIron 40G 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) router will provide critical backbone technology for N+I's show network, and the NetIron 4802 will provide edge routing capability for a live demonstration of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), the next-generation Internet standard. Foundry's NetIron 40G will provide 10GbE core switching capability for ShowNet, N+I's information system which provides Internet access to exhibitors and to thousands of networked devices throughout the show. ShowNet is a perennial highlight of N+I Tokyo, historically featuring some of the industry's newest, most powerful and reliable technologies. Foundry's NetIron 40G router is the industry's first 40 Gigabit-ready routing solution, and offers up to four Terabits of switching capacity and 1.5 billion packets per second of routing performance per rack -- nearly twice the capability of other announced platforms. The NetIron 40G router offers a complete and robust set of IP routing protocols including BGP4, OSPF and IS-IS.
Elsewhere at N+I Tokyo, the Foundry NetIron 4802 router will provide edge routing capabilities within the IPv6 showcase. The NetIron 4802 router is the industry's most compact, powerful, and aggressively-priced router for leading enterprise and service provider customers, and it offers support for high-performance IPv4 and IPv6 routing. The N+I Tokyo showcase features IPv6 running in a variety of settings, including service provider, large enterprise and home networking environments. The showcase is designed to demonstrate the new standard's interconnectivity with a variety of networking products including hardware and software solutions from more than a dozen vendors.
IPv6 tackles the need for more address space on the Internet, which is driven by exploding Internet usage and the proliferation of Internet-connected devices such as laptops, IP phones and digital security cameras. The NetIron 4802 router packs fast route processing, larger routing tables and IPv6 routing features in compact form factor, and paves the way for next generation IPv6 networks. With its complete IPv6 routing features, the NetIron 4802 router is an attractive choice for enterprises and service provider networks looking to deploy IPv6, and to develop and test a new generation of IPv6 applications, devices and services.
