Sorrento Networks Announces its First 10G Deployment in Japan
Sorrento Networks, a supplier of optical transport networking equipment for carriers and enterprises worldwide, today announced their first deployment of a 10G backbone by Global Access Ltd, a leading Telecom Carrier that builds high-capacity fiber-optic cable networks in Tokyo, Japan. The new 10G network, which spans 114 km, was created for research purposes. This month, Global Access successfully implemented and turned up Sorrento's first 10G GigaMux system in Japan. Global Access has been a Sorrento Networks customer since 2002, in which they have deployed numerous CWDM solutions throughout Japan. Marubeni Network Systems (MNET), one of Japan's leading network and systems integrators, and a Sorrento Networks partner since 2002, carried out the installation and provided Global Access full technical support. MNET has demonstrated excellence in supporting Sorrento Networks customers.
"We selected Sorrento Networks for this project because they have displayed a high level of product reliability over the years and have worked closely with us to deliver quick and cost-effective solutions," stated Koichi Katagiri, Deputy Managing Director of Network Engineering Div. at Global Access Ltd. "Furthermore, Sorrento's solution offered key 10G features in the most compact chassis. As we expected, this 10G backbone went operational this March flawlessly," added Katagiri.
"Our strong relationship with Global Access over the years has allowed us to continue to expand our footprint with them," responded Darin Clause, Sorrento's Vice President of Strategic Sales. "Sorrento's GigaMux is a compact, robust, cost-effective DWDM platform that is ideal for transport applications. I am pleased that the GigaMux product line was selected for Global Access' 10G system. We look forward to additional opportunities with Global Access," added Clause.
Sorrento Networks' optical transport portfolio allows carriers and service providers to meet all their high bandwidth optical networking needs from the enterprise location through the metro-core and regional networks. With GigaMux, companies can effortlessly grow their network without disrupting existing services to meet their increasing demands. The GigaMux system scales very efficiently, starting with as few as four wavelengths and increasing up to 64 wavelengths per fiber with data transmission speeds of up to 10 Gbps per wavelength. TeraManager, Sorrento's carrier class optical network element management system, provides end-end optical network management solutions.
