Sun Infrastructure Solutions Reduce Risk, Lower Cost and Speed Time to Service
SAN FRANCISCO -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced Sun Infrastructure Solutions -- products, services, and detailed methodologies that provide a proven Network Computing infrastructure on which customers can run their business and lower computing costs. Engineered to reduce the risk of deployment, these solutions have been architected, implemented and managed using the SunTone(SM) best practices in Sun iForce(SM) centers and then pre-tested and managed in live customer environments around the world. The first four Sun Infrastructure Solutions, available today, are Sun[tm] Infrastructure Solution for Enterprise Continuity, Sun(TM) Infrastructure Solution for Infinite Mailbox, Sun(TM) Infrastructure Solution for Enterprise Consolidation, and Sun(TM) Infrastructure Solution for Network Identity.
"It takes a systems company to solve complex systems problems. As a systems vendor, Sun has invested well over $1 billion dollars in developing the know-how to deliver simple and efficient end-to-end solutions that match application delivery needs from the workgroup to the data center," said Robert Youngjohns, executive vice president of Global Sales, Sun Microsystems, Inc., "No vendor is currently better positioned than Sun to deliver this business-critical value to customers. By helping customers gain control over their computing operations, we can reduce deployment times dramatically, saving customers millions in the process. Sun Infrastructure Solutions combine the best practices and successes from Sun's technology and services arms, enabling Sun and its iForce partners to deliver this business-ready infrastructure faster than the competition."
New Infrastructure Solutions
Sun Infrastructure Solutions incorporate the essential building blocks for Network Computing and deliver them to customers in a production-proven, easy-to-customize and easy-to-deploy manner. Each Sun Infrastructure Solution includes best-practice methodologies and Sun Reference Architectures, with sizing guides that will be made available within this quarter. Sun lifecycle services and support and financing and technology refresh services are also a part of these offerings.
-- Sun Infrastructure Solution for Enterprise Continuity -- helping to
ensure higher availability at greater distances for reduced business
loss. A joint effort with Nortel Networks, the Sun Infrastructure
Solution for Enterprise Continuity is a geographically dispersed,
near-instantaneous solution that helps keep mission-critical
applications running, under any circumstances, at distances up to
200 kilometers apart. The active/active SunPlex(TM) environment, with
its foundation in the Sun StorEdge(TM) Open SAN architecture, turns
multiple data centers into one virtually always-on data center.
-- Sun Infrastructure Solution for Infinite Mailbox -- providing
simple, economical and secure email digital archiving. This solution
provides a platform-independent, massively scalable, transparent way to
control the rising cost of email environments, while complying with
regulatory requirements to archive email.
-- Sun Infrastructure Solution for Enterprise Consolidation -- helping to
reduce cost and complexity, while improving service levels and
utilization of resources in the data center. This solution offers a
proven consolidation methodology as well as products, technologies and
services to help customers consolidate to a common architecture of
fewer, more powerful and better-utilized systems. This solution can
help to create an environment that is less costly, less complex and
easier to manage.
-- Sun Infrastructure Solution for Network Identity -- delivering the
first standards-based network identity solution that helps secure the
access, delivery, and management of network identities. Based on the
Sun ONE(TM) platform, the Sun Infrastructure Solution for Network
Identity provides organizations with the ability to quickly adapt to
changing customer and enterprise requirements, and includes support for
the Liberty Alliance protocols for Federated Network Identity
Management. This solution aids in reducing the growing silos of
identity information and provides significant cost reductions through
improved productivity and automation of business processes.
Sun Infrastructure Solutions include an economical evaluation workshop to help customers assess how solutions add value to their specific situation. These services start at under $10,000 U.S. list price. Sun Infrastructure Solutions will be available through Sun and its iForce partners.
