Austrian Telecom Adopts Legato NetWorker with Celestra
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:LGTO) announced today that Austrian telecommunications provider ONE implemented Legato NetWorker(R) information protection solutions, including Legato(R) Celestra(R) Power for serverless backup of its high demand Oracle database, for a data center managing more than 32 terabytes and serving more than 1.5 million customers. Technical guidance and implementation strategy were jointly provided by Legato consulting services and IQproducts to protect a mix of platform, application, and service level needs within a Storage Area Network (SAN) environment. "Thanks to Celestra, backup processes no longer devour vital CPU and I/O resources. Our application servers are able to work at full capacity at any stage of this process. Legato NetWorker was the product that met our requirements entirely. By using Celestra Power, we were able to solve the problem posed by an ever-shrinking backup window perfectly. The backup time of a 600GB Oracle database was reduced by more than 50 percent and there are no restrictions whatsoever on the performance of the database server during the backup processes," explains Robert Ruisz, Technical Support Manager at ONE.
ONE has many fast-growing Oracle databases that are in high demand. The need to free these databases from the performance impact caused by traditional backup methods became a necessity. Legato NetWorker with Celestra Power provided the ideal solution.
The volume of ONE's information requiring regular protection dramatically increased with each new customer and currently amounts to the 32 terabytes residing on Windows NT, Solaris, TRU64 and HP-UX servers hosting variety of applications including Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft SQL server, along with Network Appliance NAS file servers.
Now ONE has a completely automated backup and recovery solution that is centrally managed by Legato NetWorker 6. Legato NetWorker modules were also included among SAN solution components to enable online protection of ONE's non-Oracle database and messaging applications.
Legato Consulting Services for a successful SAN solution Prior to the implementation, Legato's consulting services organization joined forces with its integration partner, IQproducts GmbH, and analyzed the service level requirements, SAN components and ONE's scalability requirements. At the same time, a comprehensive test plan was developed, a series of breakdown scenarios run through and detailed documentation of the solution drafted.
"NetWorker information protection solutions like serverless backup using Celestra raise the bar on what companies can do for themselves and their customers to keep their mission-critical information available," said Greg Clock, vice president, consulting services, Legato. "The level of performance that these software products deliver can be furthered maximized with professional guidance from Legato's consulting services. For ONE, Legato's and IQproducts' consultants were able to assess ONE's current situation and analyze their short term and long term growth to determine what technology will best fit their current and future needs."
