Zzyzx Gets Rugged With High-Powered Storage Area Network for U.S. Military
SAN DIEGO, CA -- Zzyzx Peripherals Inc., a manufacturer and integrator of innovative Storage Area Network (SAN) disk and tape storage solutions for UNIX and NT environments has announced the successful achievement of a Grade A, Class II shock certification in accordance with MIL-STD-901D for its RuggedRAID FC fibre channel storage array and ruggedized high availability SAN solution. Working in a joint effort with SPAWAR and Science Applications International Corp.'s (SAIC) Information Systems Integration Division in Sterling, Va., Zzyzx has developed a Storage Area Network (SAN) centered on its innovative RuggedRAID FC for a program sponsored by the NAVSEA Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, R.I. In addition, Zzyzx' ruggedized SAN solution includes industry leading networking and software components from Qlogic Corp. and VERITAS Software Corp. and is backed with a comprehensive warranty and support package that ensures interoperability and full life cycle support.
"Our RuggedRAID development efforts have been focused on bringing best-of-breed technologies found in commercial applications to government agencies with a high availability requirement," said Chris Paradis, director of channel sales at Zzyzx. "By combining our expertise in Fibre Channel storage systems and our commitment to their ruggedization, we have been able to provide a level of fault tolerance not usually associated with military or industrial-grade configurations."
The RuggedRAID FC is a COTS full Fibre Channel based RAID system designed for use in the harsh computing environments found in military and industrial applications. The system supports data throughput across multiple 100 MB/sec. host channels and supports 657 GB of data storage in a single rack mount enclosure.
The RuggedRAID FC is designed with no-single point of failure and all field replaceable components are redundant and hot-swappable including the RAID controllers, power supplies and cooling fans. The unit has been tested for compliance with a wide range of shock, vibration and EMI standards.
The RuggedRAID FC is based upon an open systems architecture and is compatible with all major fibre channel switches and HBAs. It can be integrated as a stand-alone unit or as part of a complete SAN solution. For more information about the RuggedRAID FC, log onto www.ruggedraid.com.
