BOXX Workstation Named "King of the Hill" in DE Magazine Benchmarking

BOXX Technologies has announced that the 3DBOXX 8550 XTREME workstation earned the highest scores in SPECviewperf benchmark tests conducted by Desktop Engineering (DE) magazine. DE is a leading information resource for engineering professionals in all major manufacturing and process industries who rely on computer software and systems. SPEC is a non-profit corporation which develops high-performance computer benchmark suites and also reviews and publishes submitted results from its member organizations and other benchmark licensees.

In his review of the 8550 XTREME entitled, "The 3DBOXX 8550 XTREME is King of the Hill," DE contributing editor David Cohn details how the 12-core workstation is "the fastest system we've tested to date," for SolidWorks, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya®, and a host of other professional software applications. XTREME easily outperformed professional workstations from HP, Dell, and Lenovo. Even in full SolidWorks benchmark testing (characterized by Cohn as "more of a real-world test") the outcome remained the same. "Once again," Cohn wrote, "the 3DBOXX 8550 XTREME beat every system we've tested to date."

The 8550 XTREME, a performance enhanced solution from BOXX's heralded 3DBOXX 8500 Series, is the fastest workstation in the world. With over-clocked, dual six-core Intel Xeon 5600 processors capable of reaching 4.3 GHz, the liquid-cooled 8550 XTREME provides high-powered, multitasking performance for multi-threaded applications and complex production pipelines found in 3D animation, design, advanced visualization, desktop rendering, VFX compositing, video editing, and more. XTREME's inclusion of NVIDIA Quadro 5000 GPUs offers groundbreaking performance, superior image quality, and a fully integrated and optimized workflow across all professional applications, enabling digital artists to create detailed designs in less time.

"Record-setting performance is about more than BOXX owning the fastest speed or optimal numbers on a chart," said Shoaib Mohammad, VP of Marketing and Business Development at BOXX. "It boils down to what that industry leading performance means to our customers -- time savings, money savings, increased productivity, and increased profits. In trying economic times, industries have to adapt in order to accomplish more with fewer resources and that's what makes 3DBOXX an ideal solution. You may pay a little more upfront for world-class performance, but the enormous gains in productivity and profit clearly demonstrate how quickly this workstation pays for itself. That's the BOXX advantage."

In addition to the top rated 3DBOXX 8500 Series, BOXX's desktop workstation line also includes the Intel Core i7 single processor 3DBOXX 4800 Series, home of both the 3DBOXX 4860 XTREME and 4880 XTREME, the most powerful single processor workstations in the world. Prior to the 8550 benchmarks, DE had declared the 4860 XTREME as the fastest system they'd ever tested (January, 2011). The workstation line is completed by the 3DBOXX 3960 XTREME, an entry level solution that, at an astonishing 4.5 GHz, is the fastest workstation on the market for frequency driven software like engineering and product design applications SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, and CATIA.

These record-setting 3DBOXX systems are joined by GoBOXX, the world's fastest mobile workstation, and 3DBOXX 8500R, a remote access workstation featuring PCoIP technology. Not limited to workstations, BOXX is also home to dedicated rendering solutions like renderBOXX, the professional dedicated rendering system, renderPRO, the personal desk side rendering option, and ROW: RenderFarm on Wheels, the world's first turn key render farm.
