Mellanox Technologies has announced that the Mellanox VSA Storage Acceleration Software won the Silver Medal award in Storage Magazine/ SearchStorage.com's 'Product of the Year' in the networking equipment category.

VSA provides ultra-fast remote block storage access over a 10 Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand fabric. The software can be deployed over servers to enable high-performance x86-based storage or gateways, supporting up to 500K IOPS and 6GB/s of throughput per storage target with 50us access time, the Company said.

The judges applauded VSA for its performance and innovation. One judge said the VSA "sets a new standard for Linux storage performance," while another called it a "unique product that solves real operational market problems with exceptional value."

"VSA dramatically improves performance of applications that require rapid access to data such as persistent messaging systems in financial services, analytics, data warehousing and high-performance computing," said Patrick Guay, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "It is an honor to win the Silver Medal award in the networking equipment category in this year's Storage Magazine's 'Product of the Year'."

According to a release, the 'Products of the Year' competition recognizes the best new or updated storage products in five categories: backup and disaster recovery software and services, backup hardware, disks and disk subsystems, storage management tools and storage networking equipment. Each 'Products of the Year' finalist, chosen from among close to 200 entrants, was rated by Storage Magazine/ SearchStorage.com's panel of judges based on the criteria of innovation, performance, ease of integration into environment, ease-of-use and manageability, functionality and value.
