Mobile Learning Now a Reality for Ludlow Junior School
Xirrus has announced the deployment of Xirrus high performance Wi-Fi Arrays campus-wide at the Ludlow Junior School, located in Southhampton, England. Founded in 1899, Ludlow Jr. School is now recognized as one of the top schools in Southampton, and has been recognized for their achievements in reaching a standard of maturity in their use of technology. As the largest five-form entry school in England containing 550 students, they continue to hold the Primary Quality Mark, demonstrating good practice in literacy and numeracy teaching. In preparation for a 1:1 student learning environment, Ludlow Jr. School selected Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays for their ability to expand learning wirelessly, offering seamless connectivity and supporting future density demands to their network.
“We were finding we weren’t able to cope with the curriculum demand that we had with our traditional static IT suites - with a large pupil body and only two static rooms, it was very difficult to time table,” said Simon Watkins, Headteacher at the Ludlow Jr. School. “We made the decision to go wireless and to deploy, initially, 120 laptops across the school, with a view to gradually become a 1:1. Not only will Xirrus enable us to work flexibly in the classrooms, but also across our campus. Now we can make our technology mobile and take on learning where we want it, as opposed to having learning that has to take place in two static suites.”
Continuing, Simon stated, “We looked at a range of wireless solutions - we needed something that could cope with the complexities of our building and that would robustly support the density demands of our pupils. Xirrus appeared to offer everything that we needed, both from a technical and coverage standpoint. With the Xirrus solution, we have excellent coverage across the whole of our site,” concluded Simon. “Having moved from an older static wired solution, to now, seamlessly supporting children moving across campus with laptops – with Xirrus we’ve been able to take our learning mobile, with no issues!”
