Chelsio Delivers Unified Storage Server (USS) 2.0; Enabling High-Performance File and Block Storage Solutions
Chelsio Communications has announced that it has released Version 2.0 of its Unified Storage Server (USS) software, Chelsio's 10Gb Ethernet enterprise-ready, high performance iSCSI SAN, NAS and RDMA storage solution. USS is designed to meet the storage performance and return on investment (ROI) challenges faced by data center cluster environments, including high-performance computing environments.
USS is a highly functional, cost-effective software solution providing NAS and SAN capabilities to enable resellers and OEMs, including high-performance cluster computing (HPCC)-focused channel organizations, to turn any 64-bit Intel- or AMD-based system into a complete, cost-effective storage system. USS enables scalability to hundreds of thousands of file systems and robustness for high availability applications. USS makes it simple to connect to a network, define local workgroups, add/delete users, create shares and select local file sharing protocols. It can be used with brand new hardware or it can be mapped on top of existing, fully depreciated hardware to convert existing servers into storage targets.
"RDMA has long been a mainstay technology in HPC systems for both computing and storage networks, but has required specialized InfiniBand hardware," said Saqib Jang, principal and founder, Margalla Communications. "With the new USS release from Chelsio, 10GbE RDMA-based storage systems can be easily deployable in data centers and cloud computing environments without requiring any InfiniBand switches and adapters."
In addition to supporting NFSoRDMA and LustreoRDMA protocols and featuring high availability, the new release supports HTTP file sharing, Thin Provisioning volumes, volume cloning, redirect-on-write snapshots, instant restore from snapshots, volume encryption, and replication compression. USS 2.0 will run effectively on most Ethernet adapters but it is optimized to run faster and it turns on iSCSI data integrity and RDMA on Chelsio hardware.
"Chelsio's USS software is impressive in a couple of ways -- the completeness of the solution and the ease with which we were able to integrate it into our own storage solutions," said Denny Maetzold, president of Condre Storage, a system integrator based in Eden Prairie, MN. "The Condre Unified Storage Server is a 10GbE and 1GbE enterprise-ready high performance, low-latency storage solution."
