Six JNI 2 Gb and 1 Gb Fibre Channel HBAs Qualified for HP XP, VA Storage Arrays
SAN DIEGO, CA -- JNI(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:JNIC), a leading manufacturer of Fibre Channel host bus adapters for the Solaris market, today announced that six JNI FibreStar(R) Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) have been qualified in Sun Solaris servers for connection to Hewlett-Packard Company's high-end XP storage arrays and mid-range Virtual Array (VA) storage arrays. The products qualified for HP's XP and VA storage arrays include JNI's newest HBAs, the 2 Gb Ready(TM) FCE-6460 PCI and FCE-1473 SBus HBAs. The new JNI HBAs use the company's latest version of its Fibre Channel controller, the Emerald IV.
JNI is the first manufacturer qualified to connect HP XP or VA storage arrays to Solaris-based servers with 1-2 Gb HBAs, and the only manufacturer qualified by HP to connect Solaris servers to HP VA storage arrays with full switch fabric support.
"HP's qualification of our 2 Gb Ready HBAs is a significant milestone," said Neal Waddington, president and CEO of JNI Corporation. "With the latest family of JNI HBAs qualified, HP users will be able to quickly upgrade to 2 Gb speeds as storage array and switch products become available."
"This qualification expands HP's compatibility and connectivity for HP XP and VA storage arrays," said Neal Clapper, general manager, HP Network Storage Array Solutions. "In HP's open standards-based view of connectivity, being able to attach HP storage arrays to Solaris enables customers to select HP storage when appropriate, regardless of the server platform."
The qualification covers six different JNI HBAs installed in most models of Sun Microsystems Enterprise and Sun Fire servers, and Ultra workstations, which are connected directly or through a SAN to the HP XP and VA storage arrays. The JNI FibreStar HBAs qualified include, for SBus: FCE-1473, FCE-1063 and FC64-1063; and for PCI bus: FCE-6460, FCE-6410 and FCI-1063.
JNI's 2 Gb Ready FibreStar HBAs are priced competitively with enterprise-level 1 Gb HBAs, but offer on demand 2 Gb performance -- when connected to 2 Gb-enabled storage and switches -- to assure today's HBAs are positioned for seamless integration with tomorrow's 2 Gb Fibre Channel SANs. High data volume and time-sensitive applications are likely to be the first to deploy 2 Gb technology.
JNI reportedly dominates the market in Fibre Channel host bus adapters for Sun Microsystems servers, based on sales statistics from the independent research firms Gartner Dataquest and IDC. JNI sold approximately $90 million of SBus and PCI bus Fibre Channel host bus adapters in 2000 to the Solaris market.
JNI's 2 Gb Ready FibreStar HBAs leverage JNI's years of Solaris leadership in providing best-of-class Fibre Channel adapter products for key features like Dynamic Reconfiguration and Remote Boot on Sun servers.
