Sandia Selects LSI Logic Storage Systems For Massive Supercomputing App
ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions for the open enterprise, today announced that it has provided 46 high performance, high availability, MetaStor(R) E4400 storage systems to Sandia National Laboratories. Sandia National Laboratories is a research and development facility with ongoing projects in national security, energy and environmental technologies. Sandia will use the MetaStor E4400 storage systems to store data resulting from complex, supercomputing applications that simulate, analyze and predict performance of nuclear weapons to assure safety and reliability. The MetaStor E4400 systems installed at Sandia provide more than 100 terabytes of storage in aggregate and support a sustained data transfer rate of more than three gigabytes per second.
"The E4400 is a perfect storage solution for any supercomputing application where speed and reliability are mandatory," said Flavio Santoni, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. "Sandia National Laboratories is one of the leading research organizations in the world and we are very pleased to have been selected to support its mission."
SICORP, a New Mexico-based company that specializes in large, high- performance, high-availability storage systems, installed the E4400s and will provide ongoing service. SICORP supports its customers through a variety of responsive service and support programs.
"We selected LSI Logic Storage Systems and SICORP based on their understanding of our data requirements, their performance, their technical expertise, and price," said Milton Clauser, project manager at Sandia.
The MetaStor family of storage systems scales a thousand fold, from 36 gigabytes to 39 terabytes of online data storage, and features advanced software for centralized administration, replication, virtualization and disaster recovery. In direct attach, storage area network (SAN) or network attached storage (NAS) configurations, the MetaStor systems support AIX, CIFS, IRIX, HP-UX, http, Linux, Mac(R)OS, NetWare, NFS, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.
