Portable Batch Systems (PBS) Administrator
NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California: We are seeking an experienced system administrator with software engineering background to become a member of the High-End Computing Systems group at NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) division of NASA Ames, where we support one of the world's most powerful supercomputers, known as Columbia. This position is in a fast-paced, ever-challenging scientific computing environment. The NAS systems team is responsible for monitoring, managing and upgrading system resources and performance.
Description:
Major responsibility is supporting SGI Altis systems with emphasis on developing local mods for implementing and maintaining the Portable Batch System (PBS) job scheduling software. Additional responsibilities include supporting other HEC systems at the NAS. The analyst will be part of a team that performs ongoing activities to support these systems as well as help in planning the future direction for computing systems at NASA. Potential focus projects may include: developing system calls, and kernel enhancements. Other areas of work include system upgrades, documentation, testing, periodical on-call support, integrating new technology, beta-testing software and hardware and presenting papers at national and international High-Performance Computing conferences.
Requirements:
The candidate must be a self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. In this environment, it is important to be able to work alone on assignment as well as to work in a collaborative professional environment. The candidate must also be able to develop innovative, practical solutions to complex systems issues
BS (in CS or like field) and 5+ years experience or M.S. and 3 years experience ( or equivalent combination/experience)
Familiar with Altix preferred or Linux, C, C library routines, and systems call, Shell and Perl programming.
