HOUSTON and SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SchlumbergerSema, the Information Technology (IT) business segment of Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) , and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced an agreement to bring utility computing solutions to customers in the energy, finance, telecommunications and public sectors around the world. The agreement enables SchlumbergerSema, a member of the Sun iForce(SM) community, to deploy Sun's utility computing architecture so that customers in these sectors can dynamically match IT sourcing to business needs. These customers can have a globally available, secure outsourced business solution that includes consulting and managed services as an option with SchlumbergerSema. "With SchlumbergerSema and Sun, customers have the ability to scale up and scale down on processing capacity, as well as pay only for the increments utilized, enabling companies to predict and control costs of securely shared IT resources," said Hossein Sazegar, vice president, Computing Infrastructure Outsourcing, SchlumbergerSema. Sun's open, secure utility computing infrastructures and pricing model, combined with SchlumbergerSema expertise in providing IT business solutions, can deliver customized, pay-for-use network computing options that help each customer meet its market-specific business priorities. Customers will be able to pay for the computing resources they use through Sun's resource metering capabilities. Furthermore, the complete solution from SchlumbergerSema will include: -- Federated security from the Java Card(TM) identity badge through network identity servers managing identities and controlling access to the networks, applications and facilities; -- Full, cost-effective worldwide support services from the hosted operation to the desktop.
