Mushroom Networks announced the availability of a new enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) version of its flagship Truffle product, an advanced Broadband Bonding network appliance targeting business, government, and data centers.
Truffle provides a way for organizations with limited bandwidth options to bond together up to twelve internet connections into a single virtual broadband pipe. It accepts any combination of connection technologies, including T1, fiber, DSL, or cable, and intelligently combines them for optimal speed and improved reliability due to the redundancies of multiple connections. No coordination with the ISPs or the local network is required for the bonded connection.
The new unit features enhanced controls, allowing visibility, filtering and classification of traffic via application-aware layer 7 deep-packet inspection filters with a built-in library of hundreds of application identifiers. It enables traffic to be placed into various priority levels, including classifications of mission critical traffic such as VPN, video, VOIP or cloud-based business applications with pinpoint control of minimum guaranteed bandwidth, maximum allowed bandwidth and priority levels on a per application, user or flow basis. Traffic can be custom shaped to allow for guaranteed bandwidth for desired applications, as well as the ability to limit or block recreational or malicious traffic. The presentation layer provides graphical visibility into application traffic, network characteristics such as utilization, response times and overall connection and performance profiles.
"Truffle provides higher throughput and enhanced reliability with the added benefit of QoS controls for optimal user experience. It optimizes traffic flows for businesses with a variety of application needs, from real-time VoIP to cloud-based SaaS applications both in inbound and outbound directions. The QoS are implemented dynamically, and intelligently utilizes unused bandwidth for lower priority traffic if the high-priority applications are not running or there is simply available bandwidth," said Dr. Cahit Akin, CEO of Mushroom Networks. "It provides a granular way of improving the quality of service through application prioritization, monitoring and shaping that gives companies a controlled, secure, and redundant WAN connection. This product enhancement further cements our status as the innovation leader in Broadband Bonding and WAN virtualization."
