Vineyard Networks and Napatech today announced that they will be demonstrating a new, powerful 10 Gbps Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) enabled platform at the upcoming Cisco Live Event in San Diego. The DPI platform demonstration will showcase how the combined technologies of Vineyard Networks and Napatech can be used by OEM vendors to build cost effective, application-aware network traffic capture, inspection and analysis appliances based on standard servers.
The demand for high performance DPI enabled solutions is on the rise, fuelled by the huge growth in Internet traffic in both enterprise and mobile environments. Customers require their platforms to have the ability to capture, analyze, and inspect network traffic at speeds up to 40 and 100 Gbps. The combined Vineyard and Napatech demonstration shows it is possible to build a high-performance platform and framework that can address this need. This allows third-party vendors, such as network security, monitoring, traffic management and optimization appliance vendors, to build application-aware appliances without the need to invest in costly hardware development, firmware programming or advanced application recognition software development.
"We're talking about full traffic analysis, DPI, and full line-rate 10 Gbps application recognition using only 4 cores on a standard multi-core server," says Jason Richards, CEO at Vineyard Networks. "We can do full inspection by integrating Napatech intelligent network adapters with our DPI engine, running on a standard Intel-based server, that can scale on a per-CPU core basis to 40 Gbps and beyond, with industry leading application coverage and accuracy."
“Napatech intelligent network adapters monitor exactly what is happening right now in the network without dropping any packets,” said Henrik Brill Jensen, CEO Napatech. “By combining Vineyard’s NAVL DPI software with Napatech adapters, OEM appliance vendors have a powerful foundation for building appliances that provide fast Layer 7 visibility and application recognition.”
Napatech intelligent network adapters provide full line-rate capture and transmission from 1 Gbps to 40 Gbps with zero packet loss. In addition, Napatech network adapters provide layer 1-4 flow recognition, filtering and distribution to up to 64 server CPU cores for optimal utilization of available CPU resources.
Vineyard’s NAVL (Network Application Visibility Library) is a next-generation DPI software engine that provides real-time layer 7 classification of network traffic. NAVL uses a combination of deep packet and deep flow inspection techniques to accurately identify today’s most common applications including Mobile, Social Networking, P2P, Instant Messaging, File Sharing, Enterprise and Web 2.0 applications.
Vineyard and Napatech will be onsite offering demonstrations of this integrated solution in the Napatech booth #2424 at the World of Solutions Expo at Cisco Live, June 10-14, 2012, San Diego Convention Center.
