Will Collaborate with OpenDaylight Members to Develop Platform for Network Programmability
Compass-EOS has joined the OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open-source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).
The Compass-EOS routers and SDN Forwarding Plane, a new breed of scale-out networking devices based on icPhotonics, enable SDN/NFV-based architectures in service provider networks. As part of the OpenDaylight project, Compass-EOS will collaborate with OpenDaylight member companies on the development of a common platform for network programmability, contributing code and lending expertise for WAN-centric SDN applications.
“SDN unleashes innovation at the speed of life, as it allows operators to deploy new services in software release cycle time. We understand the power of open and collaborative development of a common platform that will allow us to provide customers with next generation solutions more quickly,” said Matt Bross, Chairman and CEO, Compass-EOS. “We look forward to contributing code and lending our expertise for data center and network-wide SDN and NFV applications in the OpenDaylight community.”
Compass-EOS’ photonic backplane technology, icPhotonics, powers ultra-bandwidth dense networking devices that bring networking into the age of modularity and virtualization. Announced this past October, the Compass-EOS SDN Forwarding Plane is a new, more powerful (yet less complex and power-hungry) networking element that takes its instructions from processes in the cloud.
To date, 44 companies have become members of OpenDaylight and more than 250 developers are participating from the open-source community.
