Celeno Communications announced a collaboration with Sigma Designs, the leading provider of connected media platforms, to promote the delivery of wireless connectivity to set-top boxes and connected media players.
Under the collaboration, Celeno's CLR250 high-performance Wi-Fi/USB 450Mbps video-grade silicon and software has been pre-integrated and tested with Sigma's most popular media processors: the SMP8652 and the SMP8670. Thanks to this collaboration, OEMs can now enable wireless connectivity on their solutions through just a simple USB interface to Sigma media processors.
"We believe that marrying together Sigma's media processors with Celeno's advanced Wi-Fi solution will enable set-top box OEMs to quickly introduce cost-effective, wireless solutions, helping service providers significantly speed up their IPTV deployments," said Gilad Rozen, CEO and Founder of Celeno. "We are pleased to collaborate with leading media processing vendors, such as Sigma Designs, to deliver the next advancements in Wi-Fi connectivity to connected media platforms."
"By developing high performance, video-grade Wi-Fi technology, Celeno components provide the boost in throughput, coverage, and quality necessary to deliver multiple HDTV, SDTV, VoIP and Data 'triple play' services over the home network," stated Gabi Hilevitz, General Manager at Sigma Designs. "This technology, along with others, will play a key role in enabling connected media platforms to continue to grow throughout the home."

Powered by Celeno's field-proven OptimizAIR technology combined with high-speed 450Mbps silicon, 3x3 radio array and digital beam forming, the solution maximizes range, throughput and signal consistency. Low packet drop, jitter and latency and overall Quality of Service for perfect, lossless video streaming is achieved with channel-aware scheduling and rate selection. The solution combines an 802.11n MAC, baseband and radio, driving down the bill of materials and lowering the cost of deployment.
Operating in both the 2.4GHz and the uncongested 5GHz frequency channels, the CLR250 works with legacy home networks as well as advanced concurrent dual-band networks. Celeno's OptimizAIR TDLS implementation makes this solution ideal for video streaming and content- sharing between devices, for applications such as Pay-IPTV, Over-The-Top (OTT), user-generated, and DVR-stored content. Real time interference detection and fast radio channel change techniques help for an overall seamless video watching experience.
