CESGA's TERRA Proxecto receives Spain's Urban Award

Today at 20:00 pm in the College Office Of Architects of Galicia, COAG, in the Plaza de La Quintana de Santiago de Compostela, the National Urban Award 2010 will be presented to TERRA Proxecto, an educational portal collaborative effort between the COAG and GIS Department Supercomputing Center of Galicia.
The award was collected days ago in Madrid, but now the project leaders have wanted to celebrate this event to share the award with other partners, including which include the Department of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center Galicia Supercomputing, which has supported the technical and cartographic.
CESGA The contribution of the project has focused on developing a web interface for consultation and use of cartographic mapping service Galicia tool, the tool and teaching resource in primary schools and secondary Galicia. Additionally, geographic information systems associated with Terra are hosted on servers in the CESGA.
This is the first time this award is granted to an educational initiative, being the highest award in the Spanish state existing to work on planning, and always hitherto granted to specific urban developments. This recognition represents a significant vote ahead of the continuity of the project so many difficulties now.
TERRA Proxecto
The Proxecto Terra was launched in 2000 to bring the architecture, urbanism and regional development to smaller Galician. The project consists of develop and make available to teachers and teaching materials on students these materials tailored to different levels of compulsory education (Child First and Secondary).
This material in the form of textbooks, workbooks, audio, comics and geographic information systems, complemented by activities from visits tours of the Galician capital to learn firsthand what they learned in class to territorial exchanges to make them aware of the built in Galicia territory various forms and how it has evolved over time and land use the territory.

In this case, the judges considered from a professional group associated with the architecture and urbanism, will make use of compulsory education as "a resource imperative for change towards a model of sustainable regional development and architecture ".
In Terra Proxecto CESGA collaborate, the Xunta de Galicia, Spanish TV and ONCE. As National Planning Award, the jury is composed among others FEMP representatives, and Pascual Madoz Institute of Land, Urban and Environment of the University Carlos III of Madrid.
