SAIC: From Science to Solutions Job Description: To support the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Candidate will participate in an ongoing project to assess and improve the impact of observations in the GMAO atmospheric data assimilation system (ADAS). Duties will include setting up and running experiments with the ADAS, applying diagnostic tools including adjoint models to measure observation impact on analyses and forecasts, and analyzing results. Candidate will also develop and code new capabilities to compare impacts of various conventional and satellite observing systems used by the ADAS and perform evaluation and tests of the system. Education: Requires a Ph.D. or M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences, Physical Sciences or Mathematics. Bachelor’s Degree and experience may substitute for advanced degree. Required Skills: Strong computational background and experience with large-scale computations and in code and script development in FORTRAN 90 and UNIX is required. Experience executing experimental runs in a high-performance computing environment is required. Solid background and previous hands-on experience in modeling and/or data assimilation.
