Supermicro, the leading server solutions provider in the channel, has started to ship dual-core Xeon serverboards and server systems. Helping customers build upon their investments in single-core Xeon solutions, Supermicro has introduced an array of dual-core Xeon motherboards and systems based on the E7520 (Lindenhurst) chipset to ensure maximum scalability and compatibility between single-core and dual-core platforms. The new dual-core Xeon processor codenamed "Paxville DP" delivers up to 50% performance gain over its single-core Xeon brethren. Supermicro's dual-core Xeon solutions take advantage of the new architecture by passing on better value (much higher price/performance ratio) and greater system stability (lowered thermal emission) onto its customers. The new processors are also expected to help improve server responsiveness, speed and multi-processing by allowing software to manage information from up to four threads per processor. "By working with our close partners, Supermicro has achieved being the first solution provider to ship dual-core Xeon solutions" said Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro Computer, Inc. "Our dual-core Xeon™ products present a significant performance upgrade over their predecessors. We have also combined them with the latest technologies such as Serial Attached SCSI and Infiniband to create truly optimized solutions." The high availability SuperServer 6014P-32R is a redundant-powered 1U DP dual-core Xeon server equipped with numerous high-performance features. It supports the following impressive specifications: up to 16GB of ECC Reg. DDR2-400 memory, two universal slots that can support either PCI-X-133/100 or PCI-Express x8 expansion, eight SAS/SATA ports (supporting four internal hard drives and over 100 external hard drives for JBOD), dual gigabit Ethernet ports, optimal fan speed control, and an IPMI 2.0 socket with a 3rd LAN option for server management. The SS6014H-32 is a standard 1U server that supports many of the same features as the SS6014P-32R and two universal expansion slots that support up to two PCI-Express x8 or two PCI-X-133/100 cards. For convertible 4U/tower systems, the SuperServer 7044H-32R shares a similar design along with the following additional features: 8 internal SAS drive support, two PCI-Express x8, 3 PCI-X-133/100, and one legacy PCI slot. Meanwhile, the SS6024H-32 is a 2U server powered by the Super X6DH3-G2 serverboard, and it supports six internal SAS drives. For system builders and channel partners, Supermicro introduces several 64-bit dual-core Xeon serverboard solutions customized for different kinds of users. Power users will like the high-end X6DH3-G2 serverboard. Its standard features include PCI-Express expansions, ECC Reg. DDRII memory support, dual gigabit connectivity, IPMI management option, and more. The core of this board is the Adaptec 8-port SAS controller. It supports a fast 3Gb/s storage access and allows backward compatibility with industry-proven parallel SCSI software and middleware to protect existing SCSI investments and to lower transition risks. Rackmount server solution users will appreciate the versatility offered by X6DHR-3G2 and the X6DHP-3G2. Both serverboards are optimized for Supermicro's 1U chassis, and they retain all the features of the high-end X6DH3-G2 plus two universal PCI-Express slots that allow users to choose PCI-Express or PCI-X expansion cards depending on their applications. On the cost-effective front, the X6DVA-4G2 features the E7320 chipset and single-channel SCSI for more cost conscious users.
