IBM zSeries mainframe and iSeries mid-range servers have important roles to play as resources and clients in the grid computing domain. Excess capacity from their traditional processing can safely be automatically provided to Linux partitions, making it feasible for them to become grid resources. Reasonable offloading of CPU intensive calculations from their existing applications, which then become grid clients, can provide significant business value by broadening the user audience while improving affordability and statistical confidence.
