Network Appliance(TM), Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, today announced that IBM has successfully completed testing of NetApp storage solutions with IBM(R) DB2 Universal Database for high availability cluster multiprocessing (HACMP) environments. The IBM supported DB2 and NetApp combined solutions provide enterprise customers continuous access to database resources and significantly reduce unplanned outages allowing for exceptional flexibility, reliability, and high availability, while at the same time increasing transaction performance within the data center. The integrated NetApp storage and DB2 solution enables customers to easily deploy data-intensive enterprise applications critical to business success in HACMP environments. The solution combines NetApp storage with a clustered AIX server to minimize downtime by quickly restoring essential services when a system, component, or application fails and allows for cluster upgrades and reconfiguration without interrupting business operations. These attributes result in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), making the combined solution especially appealing for today's budget-constrained IT departments. "Enterprises today are faced with an array of global information challenges, and data center infrastructures continue to be pressed to provide more cost effective and highly available storage solutions," said Lauren Flaherty, vice president of marketing, IBM Data Management Solutions. "Together, IBM DB2 and NetApp storage systems meet these challenges with little or no business interruption for enterprise customers in HACMP environments." Validation from IBM for HACMP with DB2 on NetApp solutions demonstrates the power and simplicity that NetApp storage brings to mission-critical, data-intensive DB2 databases. DB2 running on AIX with HACMP with NetApp storage offers clustered database technology with unprecedented reliability and scalability; IBM DB2 databases deliver powerful processing; and NetApp storage systems provide a scalable storage solution to grow and meet the increasing storage needs.
