SUNNYVALE, CA -- TeraBurst Networks(TM), a leading developer of intelligent, carrier-grade optical switching systems, today announced that it has successfully completed interoperability testing between its OMS(TM) 2100/2200 line of optical switches and Hitachi Telecom's optical transport systems. As TeraBurst's optical switches enable efficient and intelligent wavelength management within DWDM environments, interoperability with transmission systems like Hitachi Telecom's AMN 6100/7100 product line can offer carriers and network operators proven end-to-end optical networking solutions. "Interoperability between our optical switching products and DWDM transport systems from other vendors is key to our ability to offer our customers a seamless optical transport and switching solution," said Ashok Jain, CEO of TeraBurst Networks. "By combining TeraBurst's intelligent, scalable optical switches and Hitachi Telecom's world-class expertise in DWDM transport systems, we're providing our customers with a proven multi-vendor network architecture that enables them to drive their operational costs down." TeraBurst's OMS switches are based on a transparent OEO technology that enables the systems to offer bit-rate and protocol independent switch fabrics, along with reliable, compact system architectures. These systems combine low latency wavelength switching with 3R regeneration and performance monitoring, while also offering standardized optical interfaces to adjacent DWDM transport systems without impact to existing span design. "The successful interoperability demonstration between Hitachi Telecom's AMN 7100 system and TeraBurst's optical switching platform has opened up exciting possibilities with respect to flexible network deployment configurations utilizing both company's products," said David Foote, CTO of Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc. "The combined solution takes advantage of our products' transport flexibility with respect to multi-rate and multi-service traffic, and can enable new revenue-generating bandwidth services to other carriers or large business customers." TeraBurst's OMS line of optical switch products are designed to be scalable, reliable and easily deployable, with low initial investment and low incremental costs as additional wavelengths are added. The bit-rate and protocol independent switch fabric allows for line rate switching (up to 10 Gbps per channel today), while the switch technology is capable of 40 Gbps performance, providing a clear upgrade path to OC-768 line-rate switching. TeraBurst Networks, Inc. develops high performance, intelligent optical switching solutions designed to enable service providers to realize the promise of next-generation photonic networking, while maintaining the performance benefits of current networking technologies.
