ROME, NY -- The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded a $1,121,785 contract to Black River Systems Inc. of Utica for research to enhance the modeling of advanced radar systems. The three-year agreement, "Parallel Scene Generation for Electromagnetic Modeling of Complex Targets," is funded by the Department of Defense’s High Performance Computing Modernization Office as part of its Common High Performance Computing Software Support Initiative. "We are developing, as part of a collaborative effort, software to do very large-scale modeling and scene generation from a radar perspective," said Ralph Kohler Jr., program manager in the AFRL Sensors Directorate at the Rome Research Site. "We are rewriting a piece of commercial software so that it runs on computer clusters and supercomputers to model and test systems before we build them." The resulting technology will produce modeling capabilities for advanced radar systems being developed by all U.S. military services.
