Cooperation Enables Customers to Connect Data Centers Using Latest-Generation Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel-over-Ethernet Protocols
ADVA Optical Networkig has announced its participation in the BrocadeDeveloper Program, which will enable enterprise customers the ability to efficiently roll-out next-generation data center technologies between their sites.
“ADVA Optical Networking has a long history of providing best-in-breed solutions for the enterprise and data-center marketplace,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO of ADVA Optical Networking. “By working with Brocade, we continue to innovate and to be the first to introduce new technologies. The cooperation of our two market-leading companies in the data center space will allow customers to adapt new technologies like 16G Fibre Channel (FC) and Data Center Bridging (DCB) much more quickly and with the certainty that it will interoperate successfully.”
ADVA Optical Networking’s optical transmission technologies provide the platforms for IT decision-makers to gain efficiencies by implementing solutions across multiple sites. The company’s flagship product, the FSP 3000, is able to transport several Terabit/s of data capacity over virtually any distance, enabling customers to cost effectively transfer any type of Fibre Channel and Enhanced Ethernet traffic between data centers. The FSP 3000 supports all FC data rates as well as 10G FCIP/FCoE (Fibre Channel over Internet Protocol/Fibre Channel over Ethernet). The transparent high-speed transmission technology of the FSP 3000 eliminates the need for costly gateways or routers and provides the lowest latency in the industry. In addition, it features an in-flight encryption function that enables highest-security data transmission.
“The main purpose behind the Brocade Developer Program is to continually drive innovation through end-to-end testing of complementary networking products so that customers can continue to deploy new solutions with confidence,” said Patric Chang, director of strategic alliances at Brocade. “ADVA Optical Networking’s inclusion within the program provides its customers with a level of assurance that their solutions have met the rigors of an enterprise data center environment.”
With customers required to implement a multitude of new technologies and applications, it has become essential that vendors offering complementary technology cooperate in order to develop and test common end-to-end solutions. ADVA Optical Networking’s lowest-latency, flexible optical networking solutions, combined with Brocade’s expertise in data center networking present the ideal combination to enable the roll-out of traditional disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, as well as next-generation cloud computing architectures.
“Currently, the data center industry is heavily focused on the convergence toward Ethernet in their world,” concluded Glingener. “But the reality is that we are facing everything except convergence. The introduction of a multitude of new and different protocols and applications has left the landscape more complex than ever before. Customers therefore rely on us and our partners to reduce this complexity and to provide simple and elegant solutions to their problems.”
