Appro, a leading provider of high-performance enterprise computing systems announced today at the International Supercomputing Conference, ISC’07 that “Atlas” Appro XtremeServer Cluster at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has been officially ranked the 19th fastest in the world according to the current Top 500 list of supercomputers. The Top 500 has emerged as the source for determining the world's fastest supercomputers based on the Linpack benchmark. The updated list can be found at Top500.org. The Top500.org will hold a news conference at noon on Wednesday, June 27 at the ISC’07 in Dresden, Germany, introducing the 29th edition of the twice-yearly TOP500 List of Supercomputers, a closely watched tracking of the international high performance computing arena. Benchmarks show significant performance gains The Appro XtremeServer Cluster, “Atlas” at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, reached a Linpack benchmark performance 36.580 Rmax TFlop/s (teraflops) or trillions of floating point calculations per second. The Appro Xtremeserver Cluster solution is powered by Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processors configured as 1,152 4-socket 1U server nodes with a total of 9216 cores. The cluster is running Linux and is connected by a Voltaire InfiniBand switch. This cluster reflects the growing trend in supercomputing toward standards-based systems configured in clusters to address sophisticated computing needs. To see these clusters in action, go to its Web site. “To fulfill our national security mission for the U.S. Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration, the Laboratory employs systems that meet its needs for flexibility, speed and simplicity,” said Mark Seager, head of Advance Technologies for LLNL. “Atlas is a key computing resource for unclassified science projects ranging from climate and earthquake modeling to astrophysics, chemistry, materials and biosciences.” ‘We are proud to have another Appro cluster solution part of the Top 500 list of the fastest supercomputing in the world. Our customers define us as a trusted and established technology partner that not only provides a well-integrated cluster solution, but also understands the rest of their computing needs,' said John Lee, VP of Advanced Technology Solutions Group of Appro. 'We are happy to provide our customers the flexibility, high-performance and simplicity to help them achieve their business objectives.”
